British Tourism Week to commence next month
Tue 23 Feb 2010
Destinations such as the Isle of Wight may be set to benefit from next month's British Tourism Week.
The initiative, which commences on March 15th, has been designed to highlight the value of tourism to the UK economy.
British Tourism Week may also serve to remind people living in the country of many of the attractions it offers.
Bernard Donoghue, co-chair of the event, commented: "32 million people a year from abroad come here for their holidays.
"If the world is coming here and loves it, shouldn't we too?"
The National Trust is taking part in British Tourism Week by allowing people free entry to its properties on March 20th and 21st.
Mr Donoghue said the week would act as a "spring taster" for people planning a holiday in the UK later this year.
According to figures from British Tourism Week, tourism accounts for more than eight per cent of Britain's GDP and is worth £114 billion to the economy.
