Isle of Wight Garlic Festival 'a great day out'

Families on a tight budget looking to book a break could attend the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival as a great low-cost day out.

According to MoneySupermarket.com, travelling to the Isle of Wight to attend the event could be a good way to enjoy a cheap day out this summer.

The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival takes place from August 18th to 19th and it is one of the biggest events on the island's annual calendar, with thousands of people likely to go to the celebration.

Some 300 stalls are expected to be set up at the festival this year, meaning there is bound to be something of interest for everyone who goes along.

Local produce is going to be showcased at the event, with garlic grown on the Isle of Wight certain to be the centrepiece of the occasion.

Keen cooks could learn all about the recipes they could use garlic in, as well as picking up some of the versatile foodstuff to take home to their own kitchens.

"Entry costs average around £8 for adults and £5 for children and also features cookery demos, music and art and crafts," it was noted by MoneySupermarket.com.

The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival is closing in on its 30th anniversary next year and the 2012 event is sure to be something special as the organisers build up to the occasion in 2013.

According to the organisers of the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival, the event is second only to the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week annual regatta as the island's largest gathering.

"Attended by 25,000 people each year, it has been an astounding success largely due to its curious mixture of late sixties pop festival ambience, country fair and garlic cuisine coupled with plenty of entertainment for children and adults," it was noted by those behind the festival.
