The Hold Steady to play new songs at Isle of Wight Festival

American rockers The Hold Steady are to showcase new material at their upcoming appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival.

The band are to release their new single Hurricane J on May 17th 2010, with the track lifted from their soon-to-be-released fifth album Heaven is Whenever.

Stay Positive, which was released in 2008, pushed the band to new success after the critics hailed it as an excellent record.

As a result, people heading to the Isle of Wight Festival next month will be intrigued to check out how the new songs sound.

Speaking to ClashMusic, singer Craig Finn revealed that Hurricane J was one of the first songs the band wrote for the new album.

He said: "It's narrated from the point of view of an older man speaking to a younger woman, who believes himself to be more worldly and wise than his counterpart."

The Hold Steady are joined on the bill for the Isle of Wight Festival by bands such as Biffy Clyro, Vampire Weekend and headliner Sir Paul McCartney. ADNFCR-3083-ID-19744435-ADNFCR
