Rocker reflects on 1970 Isle of Wight Festival

A rock star has reflected on his experiences at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival, which is famous for being one of the last appearances by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix.

Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull pointed out that neither his band nor Hendrix had wanted to play on stage last at the festival.

In an interview with eFestivals, he explained that this was due to the atmosphere at the Isle of Wight Festival that year, which he said was "imploding with anarchy".

Anderson stated that Hendrix particularly did not want to go on last as he had planned to showcase new material to the crowd, but Jethro Tull were faster to set up their equipment so went on before the guitarist.

He said: "The audience were somewhat hostile to his new direction and his new material and he ended up, grudgingly, having to play his hits."

Hendrix was then found dead in a London hotel room after choking on his own vomit just a few weeks after the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival.
