Pearl Jam to headline Isle of Wight Festival

Pearl Jam have been revealed as the third and final headliner of the 2012 Isle of Wight Festival, competing an "American Trilogy" of top US rock acts on the bill.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will also be playing at the event, which is set to take place from June 22nd to 24th, as well as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Promoter of the Isle of Wight Festival John Giddings had previously stated he was looking to book a trio of American bands and has been successful in his aims.

Pearl Jam are an exclusive UK booking for the Isle of Wight Festival this year and will be taking to the stage on the Saturday night of the event.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers get the bash off to a flying start on Friday and the festival comes to a close with a special two and a half hour set by The Boss on Sunday evening.

Speaking about the booking of Pearl Jam, Mr Giddings stated the group has been on the wishlist of the event for many years and he is "proud" to announce they will be playing on the island.

"Meanwhile, we intend to provide plenty of other entertainment in the Big Top and Garden Stage," he said.

Acts have also been added to the line-ups for these two stages at the Isle of Wight Festival, with Wretch 32 and Professor Green among them.

The latter rapper, who is perhaps best known for his hit track Just Be Good To Green with Lily Allen, will be performing in the Big Top on the Saturday night of the event.

Hip-hop artist Wretch 32 has enjoyed massive success over the course of 2011 with tracks including Traktor and Unorthodox making it into the top five of the UK singles charts, while Don't Go went to number one.

Two other names on the line-up for Saturday in the Big Top are British urban soul act Loick Essien and Clement Marfo & The Frontline.

As well as the Big Top names, further bands have been added to the bill for the main stage of the 2012 Isle of Wight Festival.

After a successful show at the event back in 2008, Welsh rockers Feeder will be returning to the event and will get the action off to a thrilling start on the Friday afternoon.

Over the course of their career, the group has had smash hit singles with the likes of Buck Rogers, Just a Day, Just the Way I'm Feeling, Shatter, Come Back Around and Seven Days in the Sun.

Mr Giddings also revealed the act that will be taking to the stage in the Big Top to be bringing the festival to a close on the Sunday night.

Recently reformed glam-rockers The Darkness will be performing at the event, with songs such as Growing on Me, Love Is Only a Feeling and number two smash I Believe in a Thing Called Love among those likely to be showcased by Justin Hawkins and the group in the set.

They are famous for their live shows and the organisers of the 2012 Isle of Wight Festival promised those who go along to see them that they will not forget it in a hurry.

Other acts already confirmed as being on the bill for the event included Madness, Elbow and Noel Gallagher's Flying Birds, as well as Example and Biffy Clyro.

The Vaccines and Noah and the Whale will also be taking to the main stage over the course of the weekend, while many more bands are yet to be revealed by the organisers of the bash.
