Oasis and Blur among 'dream' Isle of Wight Festival headline acts

Oasis and Blur may be among the acts heading to the Isle of Wight Festival in the future after the organiser of the event revealed they are on his list of dream bookings.

Speaking after the 2012 festival came to an end, John Giddings stated he wants Oasis to play on the Isle of Wight "when they reform", potentially suggesting he has an insight into the futures of Noel and Liam Gallagher.

The younger brother played the event with his new band Beady Eye last year, while Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds were second on the bill this summer, coincidentally in the same slot Beady Eye had taken 12 months beforehand.

Mr Giddings usually gets his way regarding headline acts for the Isle of Wight Festival, successfully persuading Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band to play on the island this summer.

In an interview with NME, the organiser also revealed he would like acts such as Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day and Fleetwood Mac to perform at the Isle of Wight Festival in the future.

Mr Giddings spoke about the future of the festival market in the UK, which some believe is in decline following the cancellation of a number of smaller events this summer.

"I believe that festivals will survive as long as there are good bands out there as an attraction for them, bands that are capable of performing in big arenas. It doesn't matter if it rains, Mick Jagger says that crowds are livelier when it rains and he's the ultimate word on the subject," he said.

Blur could be a long shot to play at the Isle of Wight Festival in the future, due to the fact band members have hinted their show at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in London later this summer could be their last gig as a group.
