Music fans flock to Isle of Wight Festival

Thousands of music fans have descended on the Isle of Wight for a weekend of live music and entertainment.

The Isle of Wight Festival, which has become the first major event of the UK festival season, is now in its 12th year since being revived at Newport's Seaclose Park following a brief but famous run from 1968 to 1970.

Camping facilities at the site opened on Thursday (June 13th) and those arriving early were treated to live performances from a select number of bands, including The Farm and The Happy Mondays.

Acts due to appear on Friday, the first full day of the festival, include Ellie Goulding, Rizzle Kicks, Jake Bugg, Emeli Sande, Paul Weller and The Stone Roses.

Earlier this week, the Metro published a list of ten acts to watch at this year's event. Revellers were advised to make sure they catch exciting newcomers such as Bastille and Laura Mvula, as well as festival veterans like Bon Jovi and The Killers.

Many music fans catching ferries to the Isle of Wight this weekend will be hoping for good weather, as the 2012 event was hit by torrential rain that resulted in flooding and an extremely muddy site.

Fortunately, generally dry and bright conditions are expected this weekend, although there is also a possibility of strong winds.

In comments reported by the Telegraph, organiser John Giddings said: "The sun has been shining for the last week and I am here putting the finishing touches to the 12th Isle of Wight Festival. I haven't been this excited since the first year.

"Not only do we have three of the biggest headline bands in the world, The Stone Roses, The Killers and Bon Jovi, on top of that we have over 100 top class acts playing across the festival's stages."

Mr Giddings also told the newspaper that additional steps have been taken to thwart ticket touts this year, with the festival organisers holding back 2,000 tickets per day so that "real fans" can buy them from the box office.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801599126-ADNFCR
