Local talent to be showcased at Isle of Wight Festival

The Isle of Wight Festival is set to be a showcase not just for some of the biggest names in the music industry this year, but also for local talent, it has been revealed.

Director of Isle of Wight music college Platform One David Pontin told the Isle of Wight County Press that the announcement by event organiser John Giddings of the return of The Bandstand stage presents a real opportunity for local youngsters to showcase their talents to the wider world.

He said: "John is determined to give back to the Isle of Wight by investing even more time, energy and, let's face facts, money to support our work with young, up-and-coming local bands.

"This dedicated stage will enable Platform One to showcase the incredible music talent of young people who live here on the Island."

Some of the biggest names on the UK music scene are to perform at this year's festival, including Emeli Sande, Palma Violets, Kids in Glass Houses, Newton Faulkner and many more.

In addition, the headline acts for 2013 have already been confirmed as 'Madchester' legends The Stone Roses, Las Vegas rockers The Killers and US pop-rock icons Bon Jovi.

Kicking off on June 13th and running for four nights, a weekend adult camping ticket will set fans back £185, while day tickets can be purchased from £75. Children under the age of six will be able to get in for free.

The Isle of Wight Festival first took place in 2002 and welcomed headlining acts Starsailor, Ash, The Charlatans, The Coral and Robert Plant.

In the following years it has played host to some of the biggest bands and artists in the world, with such luminaries as Foo Fighters, The Sex Pistols, The Prodigy, Seasick Steve, Jay-Z, Blondie and Bryan Adams all taking to the event's many stages.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801524225-ADNFCR
