Isle of Wight to be Stone Roses only 2013 UK festival

Iconic Manchester band the Stone Roses have confirmed that their only UK festival date in 2013 will be an appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival on June 14th.

The group enjoyed runaway success in the late 1980s and early 90s with hits such as Fools Gold, I Wanna Be Adored and She Bangs the Drum, recording just two critically-acclaimed albums before breaking up acrimoniously in 1996 and getting involved with various other projects.

However, their shadow continued to loom large over the British music industry, and they announced on October 18th that they planned to return from their 15-year hiatus with a major tour.

Performing at a number of festivals, including Tennants Vital and T in the Park, the Ian Brown-fronted act also took part in three emotional shows in their home town, selling 220,00 tickets for the Heaton Park gigs.

With this indication of their continued popularity, it seems clear their position at the top of the bill for the Isle of Wight Festival will draw excited punters from across the UK.

The Roses have continued to hold a great deal of appeal for audiences outside Britain as well, with plans to visit Indonesia and tour Australia over the course of 2013.

Festival promoter John Giddings said: "When you talk about the soundtrack of our lives, The Stone Roses are embedded in it. I am so proud to get them to our island - they will kick the weekend off with a bang."

Performers who took part in the event this year included Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Stone Roses' devotee Noel Gallagher's latest project High Flying Birds.

The Isle of Wight Festival will take place from June 13th to 17th 2013, with tickets to go on sale on November 28th.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801495038-ADNFCR
