Isle of Wight Festival wins award

Isle of Wight Festival tickets could be in demand for next summer after the event was given an award for its initiatives to be eco-friendly.

A Greener Festival has revealed which of the UK's music bashes are the most environmentally friendly, with the Isle of Wight Festival labelled "outstanding" by the organisers.

Bestival - another event held on the Isle of Wight every summer - was also highlighted as one of the best in the country and was "highly commended".

The Isle of Wight Festival was one of just a small handful in the UK to be given the top accolade by the judges, coming in the same category as events from as far afield as Australia, Norway and the US.

Wood, Sunrise Celebration, Croissant Neuf Summer Party and Shambala were the other English events to be named outstanding by the organisers of the awards.

The Isle of Wight Festival is on a much larger scale to those bashes so may be the ideal choice for fans who want to enjoy big names live on stage as well as taking part in eco-friendly ideals.

Glastonbury Festival was in the same category as the Isle of Wight's Bestival, while the Co-Operative Cambridge Folk Festival was included too.

Many other UK festivals were labelled as "improving" by the organisers of the awards, but it seems that the Isle of Wight is the place to go for those who want to take part in a music event that boasts a great line-up as well as helping the environment.

Bestival was headlined by bands such as The Cure, Primal Scream and Bjork, while the Isle of Wight Festival had acts as diverse as Kings of Leon, Pulp, Foo Fighters, Tom Jones, Manic Street Preachers and Alexandra Burke.

Next year, the event has been moved to June 22nd to 24th in order to avoid any clashing with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
