Isle of Wight Festival 'was the greatest nostalgia show on Earth'

This year's Isle of Wight Festival has been described by one music journalist as the greatest nostalgia show on the planet.

According to Guardian scribe Mark Beaumont, the headline appearance of Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney meant that the 55,000 attendees were treated to the "mightiest canon in a century or so".

McCartney "put the career-wringing likes of Ocean Colour Scene and the Alarm firmly in their place," added the journalist.

The writer also praised the performance of Saturday night bill-toppers The Strokes, who he said played a set full of classic hits made up mostly from their debut record Is This It.

Mr Beaumont added that the line-up at this year's Isle of Wight Festival was as good as that on offer at any other music event taking place in the UK this year.

Festivalgoers will have the chance to head back to the Isle of Wight later this summer when Bestival is held at Robin Hill Country Park, with The Flaming Lips, Dizzee Rascal, Hot Chip and The Prodigy on the bill at the event.
