Isle of Wight Festival raises thousands for charity

Thousands of pounds were raised for charity at the recent Isle of Wight Festival.

Volunteers sold bright yellow sunflowers to raise money for the Mountbatten Hospice, with the grand total just under £30,000, reports VentnorBlog.

The twenty volunteers were not just present at the Isle of Wight Festival to convince revellers to part with their cash, they also staked out the island's ferry terminals to catch attendees on their way on and off the island.

Some also headed to various supermarkets on the island to catch those stocking up on food and drink for the event.

The local news provider stated: "It looks like that kind of devotion has paid off, so well done to the volunteers."

This year's Isle of Wight Festival was headlined by US acts The Strokes and Jay-Z as well as British music legend Sir Paul McCartney, who played an extended set after the event's organisers moved the schedule around to accommodate a few more hits.
