Isle of Wight Festival headliner to play 'patriotic new material'

Music lovers looking forward to the Isle of Wight Festival this summer have been given an insight into what to expect from the show by one of the headlining acts at the event.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be playing songs from their new album Wrecking Ball, which is released next month, when they play on the final night of the bash (June 24th).

In an interview with the Guardian, Springsteen explained he does not feel anybody has been held to account for what has happened in the US in the last few years.

The guitarist, who has campaigned for John Kerry and current US president Barack Obama in the past, indicated he will not be as active in this election year.

"A big promise has been broken. You can't have a United States if you are telling some folks that they can't get on the train. There is a cracking point where a society collapses. You can't have a civilisation where something is factionalised like this," he told the newspaper.

Springsteen added a lot of the new material that is present on Wrecking Ball contains a "critical, questioning and often angry patriotism" like much of his best music.

He noted the Occupy Wall Street movement - which has been copied all over the world - has changed the way politics are spoken about in the US in the last couple of years, with the income equality in the country on the agenda for the first time in years.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are joined on the bill for this summer's Isle of Wight Festival by a pair of fellow US rock bands, Pearl Jam and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Other acts travelling to the island to perform at the event this June include Band of Skulls, Joan Armatrading, Madness, Biffy Clyro, The Vaccines and Enter Shikari.
