Isle of Wight Festival 'has wide range of acts'

This year's Isle of Wight Festival has a wide range of acts and there will be something for everyone, the organiser of the event has stated.

According to John Giddings, the headline trio will appeal to people of all ages, with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Pearl Jam making it an "American Trilogy" for the festival.

Speaking to the Press Association, the curator admitted some may see the three groups as being "dad rockers", but he insisted they will draw a crowd and entertain the audience.

He also explained the reason behind a decision to cut the number of tickets available for the Isle of Wight Festival from last year's total of 55,000 to just 50,000 this summer.

The festival site had been too crowded during the 2011 festival and has been rejigged as a result to make it more spacious for revellers this year.

This is the 11th year Mr Giddings has run the Isle of Wight Festival and it is now a full decade since he resurrected the event in 2002.

Acts such as Example, Katy B, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah will be providing music for the younger end of the crowd on the main stage over the course of the weekend, with the likes of Biffy Clyro, Feeder and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds offering more guitar-based sounds.

"With the older acts, they have been around for a long period of time, they have performed for a great number of people and they appeal to people from 15 to 50," Giddings said.

It was also revealed that a big screen will be set up for those who want to follow the Euro 2012 football championships that are currently taking place in Poland and Ukraine.

England will be playing their quarter-final during the Isle of Wight Festival if they make it out of the group they are competing in with Ukraine, France and Sweden.
