Isle of Wight Festival dates for 2012 revealed

Revellers wishing to attend the Isle of Wight Festival in 2012 have been informed when the event will be taking place, with the weekend scheduled for a different time of the summer to usual.

Organiser John Giddings explained that the bash is going to be moved in order to avoid clashes and will now take place from June 22nd to 24th, a week later than normal.

This fills the gap left by Glastonbury, which is having a year off to allow the fields on the Pilton site to recover.

Mr Giddings explained that he had been advised holding the Isle of Wight Festival on the usual weekend would not be a good idea, due to the level of congestion it would cause.

He explained it was set to clash with the Jubilee, which could have resulted in a number of issues on the production side of the event, which draws thousands of music fans to the island every summer to see a whole host of top bands live on stage.

"We have therefore taken the executive decision to move, for one year only, to 22/23/24th June 2012 to ensure a smooth journey for everyone and to get the entire infrastructure on and off the island," said Mr Giddings.

Tickets for the Isle of Wight Festival will go on sale at early bird prices from September 30th, with island ferry operator Red Funnel among the outlets to be selling them, with travel included.

This year's event featured headline sets from US bands Foo Fighters and Kings of Leon, as well as Pulp, Kasabian, Manic Street Preachers and Liam Gallagher's new venture Beady Eye.

Also on the bill were acts as diverse as Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Iggy and the Stooges, Tom Jones, Alexandra Burke and We Are Scientists, as well as Boy George and Public Image Ltd.
