Improvement works announced for Isle of Wight Festival site

Improvement works are set to take place at Seaclose Park in Newport in order to get the location ready for the Isle of Wight Festival being held at the site later in the year.

A project to improve access at the park is set to begin next month, it has been announced by the Isle of Wight Council, which said the scheme will mean some of the area is closed to the public.

However, it is expected that Seaclose Park and the arboretum will be able to remain open for the duration of the improvements, with some parts becoming restricted due to the project.

According to the local authority, parts of the footpaths that surround the Isle of Wight Festival site will be renovated, while conifer trees near the playing courts are going to be pruned to improve shelter and light for users.

One of the major parts of the scheme will see access to the park from the arboretum widened in order to help accommodate large numbers of visitors expected to travel to the island this June for the Isle of Wight Festival, which is set to host headline slots from US bands Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Pearl Jam and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

The organisers of the event are taking responsibility for the cost of this part of the project, it was noted by the Isle of Wight Council, which added: "This will involve re-profiling part of a ditch next to the current access and using materials designed to blend into the existing landscape."

Acts taking part in this year's Isle of Wight Festival - which is set to be held at Seaclose Park from June 22nd to 24th - include Biffy Clyro, Example, Jessie J, Elbow, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Feeder and Noah and the Whale.
