Geldof and the Rats to reform for IOW Festival

The Boomtown Rats are set to reform for a landmark gig at this year's Isle of Wight (IOW) Festival, it has been revealed.

Sir Bob Geldof will be joining original members Pete Briquette, Johnnie Fingers, Garry Roberts, Simon Crowe and Gerry Cott for the one-off performance on the festival's Main Stage.

Formed in 1975, the Rats were originally known as The Nightlife Thugs, but changed their name after only one gig.

Some of the most popular songs recorded by the group include Rat Trap and Don't Like Mondays, with the band likely to be performing all their classic songs to an eager crowd when the festival gets underway in June.

Sir Bob said: "I've always fancied playing the IOW Festival ever since I hitched there in the good/bad days when I was a kid. I saw The Who, Doors - I think - Hendrix and Leonard Cohen, who incidentally blew Hendrix off the stage, and Kris Kristofferson, who was amazing - God, so many cool bands."

Set to perform on the evening of June 16th at the festival, it will be the first time the band have played together since their split in 1986.

Sir Bob will be joined by another legend of the late 70s and 80s at this year's IOW Festival, with the Modfather himself Paul Weller also confirmed as a headliner on June 14th.

Legendary frontman for both The Jam and The Style Council before going on to have a successful solo career, Weller will be showcasing a number of his biggest hits on the night, including Pebbles on the Beach, The Changingman, Going Underground and many more.

Festival promoter John Giddings argued: "If you like music, you like Paul Weller - he is one of the greatest singer songwriters this country has produced."ADNFCR-3083-ID-801530836-ADNFCR
