Elbow and Madness to play Isle of Wight Festival

The organisers of the Isle of Wight Festival have revealed a whole host of new names on the bill of the event, including British groups Madness and Elbow.

Both will be performing on the Main Stage at the event over the course of the weekend, which is set to be held from June 22nd to 24th next year.

The Isle of Wight Festival has been moved from its usual slot in order to avoid a clash with the celebrations being held to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next summer.

More British talent has also been added to the bill of the 2012 Isle of Wight Festival, with Scottish rock group Biffy Clyro among the new names on the list for the weekend.

Rapper Example will also be taking to the stage at the bash to play hits such as Kickstarts, Won't Go Quietly and Changed the Way You Kiss Me in his set.

Arguably the biggest coup of the new bands on the line-up for the 2012 Isle of Wight Festival is the addition of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

They will be performing on the last day of the 2012 event and have been confirmed as being in the slot ahead of the closing act, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Ironically, this is the same position on the bill that was taken up by Beady Eye, the new group former by Noel Gallagher's brother and former Oasis bandmate Liam, last year.

They performed on the Isle of Wight Festival stage ahead of a closing set by British rock band Kasabian, who are known to be friends with the two brothers.

The Vaccines will play on the Main Stage of the bash earlier in the day and a gap in the line-up has been left for more additions to the bill to be filled in by curator John Giddings.

Speaking about the latest bands to be named as playing at the 2012 Isle of Wight Festival, he said: "We are very proud to bring the cream of British talent to the island next summer, it's shaping up to be another bumper year!"

Elbow will be playing on the opening night of the event, following sets from Example and indie band Noah and the Whale, although the headliner for that day is yet to be confirmed.

Example is returning to the Isle of Wight Festival after a popular show in 2011, while it will be the first time Noah and the Whale have played at the island-based event.

Bury band Elbow have shot to fame in the last couple of years after a career of slow-building success, thanks to songs such as One Day Like This.

Meanwhile, Biffy Clyro and Madness will both be taking to the stage on the Saturday of the Isle of Wight Festival, with the latter band likely to showcase hits including Baggy Trousers and Our House, as well as Driving in My Car and Grey Day.

Madness said: "At last, we've been wanting to play the Isle of Wight Festival for ages now, the perfect way to start our summer."

Speaking about the bands he is looking to book for the event recently, Mr Giddings explained the two acts he is in discussions with both hail from the US.

Along with the confirmed Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, he told eFestivals this would be an "American Trilogy" if the negotiations are completed.

He also revealed The Boss will be playing an extended show to close the Isle of Wight Festival, with two and a half hours of his most famous songs - such as Dancing in the Dark and Born to Run - to be played in the setlist.
