Biffy Clyro 'excited' to play new songs at Isle of Wight Festival

Music fans looking forward to attending the Isle of Wight Festival this summer have been given an insight into what Biffy Clyro's show at the event will be like.

The Scottish rock band revealed they are "excited" to be performing again this summer after a period of being in the studio recording new material, which will be released in the form of a double album later in the year.

Speaking to the Daily Record, James Johnston admitted to being "nervous" at the prospect of playing the new songs to festival crowds over the summer, including a homecoming headline gig at RockNess in Scotland at the start of June, two weeks before the Isle of Wight Festival.

He said: "That's always an exciting point, when you come out of the studio with a finished song with the chance to play it to the world. We're looking forward to that a lot."

The musician added the band is looking forward to playing at a wide range of festivals over the course of the year, with a show lined up at the Donnington Rock Festival as well as the trip to the Isle of Wight in June this year.

Johnston also said the double album to be released by the group has a concept behind it, although the trio are wary of giving too much away at this stage.

"It is a good way to tell the story of the album. We want to push ourselves and make it the biggest album we can," he told the news provider.

But Johnston would not be pressed on whether he thinks Biffy Clyro are Scotland's biggest band at the moment, even though they are second on the bill at the Isle of Wight Festival, taking to the stage before headline act Pearl Jam on the Saturday night of the event (June 23rd).

Other acts playing at the Isle of Wight bash this year include Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
