Bendy buses 'could transport Isle of Wight Festival attendees'

Isle of Wight Festival ticketholders could enjoy a ride on a bendy bus to get them to the site as the vehicles are being considered as a possible mode of transportation for this summer.

Four of the bendy buses - axed from being used in the capital by London mayor Boris Johnson recently - are being stored on the island right now by local operator Southern Vectis.

And the company is looking into the possibility of using the buses to transport revellers heading to the Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival this summer, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

But Go South Coast divisional director Marc Morgan Huws claimed there is no guarantee the vehicles are going to be used, as the decision is yet to be made.

"Go South Coast has evaluated bendy buses for its events fleet and it is possible our events fleet will include up to a dozen," he said.

Mr Morgan Huws added the bendy buses have been tested all over the Isle of Wight to see if they are suitable to transport music lovers to the two main festival sites on the island.

He also moved to reassure those who voiced concerns fare dodgers could take advantage of the rear doors on the buses to travel for free, by noting these would be locked if the vehicles were used for events such as Bestival and the Isle of Wight Festival.

"It is quite simple to make them secure. You only open the front door," declared the Go South Coast divisional director.

The headline acts for the 2012 Isle of Wight Festival have already been revealed and it is a trio of US rock bands who will be taking to the stage at the June event.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform on the Main Stage at the Isle of Wight Festival, with other acts on the bill including Example, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Feeder.
