BBC show to feature Isle of Wight Festival

Revellers who have headed to the Isle of Wight Festival are likely to be tuning into a television programme all about the event this weekend.

At 21:00 GMT on Friday night (December 19th 2010), BBC Four will be screening a documentary film about the history of music festivals.

It will look back at the very first events and how they became more popular through bashes such as the Isle of Wight Festival in the 1960s.

The film then goes on to examine how the free events that were held up and down the country in the 1970s and 1980s affected the country's cultural heritage.

It will also discuss the reasons by the recent resurgence for people heading to gatherings such as the Isle of Wight Festival, which relaunched a few years ago and is now one of the biggest in the UK.

Tickets for the 2011 Isle of Wight Festival are already on sale, with outlets including local ferry firm Red Funnel.
