Ryde Carnival 'brings the Isle of Wight together'

Tourists who were away on Isle of Wight holidays over the weekend may have attended a major event which has been described as a success during their time on the island.

The Ryde Carnival took place over the course of the last few days and saw revellers dancing in the streets of the town as the parade passed through.

According to the Isle of Wight County Press, the carnival is the oldest of its kind and has been running for the last 120 years.

Ryde town crier Steve King was in attendance in his full regalia for the first time.

He told the news provider: "It is a brilliant atmosphere and very colourful. It really brings the community out together for the biggest carnival on the island."

The Isle of Wight is well-known for events of this kind and they are among the most popular attractions for families who travel to the island for a summer break.

Many of the island's towns hold their own carnivals over the course of the year, with Ryde itself putting on another parade in the coming weeks.

On September 3rd, an illuminated carnival will be held on the streets of the town and is sure to be well attended by those on Isle of Wight holidays.

Sandown is another of the Isle of Wight locations to be famous for events such as this and it will be holding its illuminated carnival on August 31st.

Hundreds of costumes are set to be shown off on the night and dozens of brightly lit floats will be travelling through the streets of the destination.

Pan's carnival is taking place on Friday (August 26th), while there will be a similar event in St Helens next Monday (August 29th), which is a bank holiday.

This could make it a particularly attractive option for those who are planning an Isle of Wight holiday in order to take advantage of the long weekend.
