Isle of Wight to see children's parade for NatWest Island Games

Visitors to the Isle of Wight this summer are to see a parade involving thousands of participants in Ryde.

The town is to be one of the venues for this year's NatWest Island Games, with Ryde Town Council currently drawing up plans for a gala opening ceremony to mark the occasion, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

Carnival Learning Centre manager Chris Slann and carnival arts development officer Frankie Goldspink are organising a themed parade involving 1,200 children, which will make its way through Ryde on June 25th 2011.

They will be joined by the 3,200 athletes competing in the events as the parade makes its way down to the Quay Road car park, with former Olympic medallist and London Olympics ambassador Lord Coe set to officiate.

An Arts Council grant of £94,099 has been awarded to fund the ceremony, which will be provided by the National Lottery.

The NatWest Island Games will take place across the Isle of Wight between June 25th and July 1st 2011.
