Isle of Wight event 'to showcase folk scene'

Fans of folk music may be tempted to book Isle of Wight holidays for this summer in order to attend an event that promises to showcase the island's best talents in the genre.

Folkstation will be taking place on the island later in the year and a warm-up for the event has helped to raise money to go towards the running of the festival.

The Crew played at Wootton Bridge Community Centre in a sold-out show that raised hundreds of pounds, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

According to guitarist for the band Barry Seward, the group was "blown away" by how many people turned up to see them play the gig.

"The crowd really got into the spirit of the evening, danced the night away and helped us raise £445 for Folkstation," he said, adding he hopes it will encourage more people to come along to Folkstation.

He explained this does not just mean those who are already fans of this type of music, as the organisers want to attract a wide range of people.

Folkstation is set to take place at  Forest Farm, near Porchfield, from July 6th to 8th, with hundreds of people expected to book Isle of Wight holidays so they are able to attend.

The Crew - who are known for playing traditional folk instruments, including penny whistles, accordions, ukuleles and bodhrans - will be taking to the stage on the final night of the event to close it.

Tickets are available for the festival now and they are priced at £55 for a weekend pass for an adult, while it is just £10 for kids aged between five and 15, with little ones younger than this getting in for free.

Anthony John Clarke has been confirmed as one of the headline acts for this summer's Folkstation, with other acts on the bill including Folk On and the Isle of Wight's own Lucid.
