Isle of Wight event grabbed people's interest

More than 200 people took part in a recent event on the Isle of Wight, with the organisers claiming it grabbed the interest of the public.

Islanders and those on Isle of Wight holidays turned out to take part in The Last Train - a walk from Newport following the journey made by the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

Roger Macdonald, a member of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, stated that he had only expected around 50 people to get involved in the event, which culminated in the final leg of the trip being made on the train.

Speaking to VentnorBlog, he said: "It was great to see so many people who were there 40 years ago walking alongside a good number of younger people and families all interested in helping us mark this important anniversary."

A number of events will be held during 2011 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, including The First Train on April 12th, which will replicate the opening journey of the railway back in 1971, from Havenstreet and Woodhouse.
