Cello player to perform on Isle of Wight

Classical music fans could be booking Isle of Wight holidays for later this month in order to attend a show by a critically-acclaimed cello player.

Thomas Carroll, who was trained at the Yehudi Menhuin School, will be performing the Dvorak Cello Concerto at the Medina Theatre on March 26th 2011.

It marks a return to the island for the musician, who has previously appeared on stage with the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra (IWSO) and West Wight Arts Association, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

"He has a busy international schedule and is in demand both as a soloist and chamber musician with orchestras and ensembles throughout the world," said the newspaper.

It added that Carroll will perform alongside the IWSO, with the music director Jonathan Butcher acting as conductor on the night, which will include versions of Finlandia by Sibelius, Manfred by Schumann and A Summer Evening by Kodaly.

He has worked with the Belcea Quartet, Yehudi Menuhin, Ivry Gitlis and Gidon Kremer among others in the past.
