Head to this year's Isle of Wight Cycling Festival

The annual Isle of Wight Cycling Festival is returning to the island this summer, with entry now open for anyone wishing to take part.

Running from September 21st to 29th and covering a 70-mile round route of the island, visitors are being encouraged to head along and show their support for the entrants as they take on the gruelling undertaking in aid of a range of good causes.

During the festivities there are two main events that always capture the imagination of festivalgoers - Cycle the Wight and the Hills Killer.

Cycle the Wight is a gruelling and challenging round the island race typically kicking off at 09:00, with the fittest riders able to complete the course in around three hours and those less so generally taking between six to eight hours.

Entrants ride in support of the British Heart Foundation and entry costs just £10 plus sponsorship.

Meanwhile, the dreaded Hills Killer is an orienteering/endurance event that runs between Freshwater and Lake.

It is split into three sections and takes in 24 hill climbs in all - making it a veritable 'killer' for those who are not up to the challenge. Riders must complete the course in the fastest time possible, taking in all the checkpoints and it will be held on September 15th before the festivities fully get underway.

Entrants feeling they are up to it can take part for £20 in advance or for £25 on the day.

Meanwhile, those looking for a more sedate getaway in September might like to check out the annual International Classic Car Show that will be held in and around Newport Quay & Eastern Gardens in Ryde on the 14th and 15th.

An array of some of the rarest and most valuable classic cars from across the UK and beyond will be assembled at the show, making it a veritable treasure trove of attractions for those interested in automotive history and beautiful cars.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801593103-ADNFCR
