Check out this year's Isle of Wight Cycling Festival

With Chris Froome riding to victory and becoming only the second Brit to be crowned the winner of the prestigious Tour de France last weekend, bike enthusiasts wishing to enjoy the great outdoors might like to fly the flag at the upcoming 2013 Isle of Wight Cycling Festival.

Offering scenic rides across many parts of the island in September, the festival promises to be a fantastic opportunity for visitors to brush off their helmets and take to the many wonderful cycling tracks of the Isle of Wight.

The event is open to participants of all ages and fitness, and will be running from September 14th to 29th.

Cycle the Wight is one of the most popular attractions of the festival each year and covers a 70-mile route around many of the island's most beautiful areas.

In addition, the annual Hills Killer is one ride that is not for the faint hearted. Made up of cyclists travelling to a number of checkpoints across the island, participants will take on 24 gruelling hill climbs throughout the day-long event, with the winner being crowned as the one who completes the course in the best time.

Sponsors of this year's events include the Isle of Wight Council, Matrix Create, Isle of Wight Area of Natural Beauty, the British Heart Foundation and Bar Cliff.

All those wishing to take part can sign up at the festival's dedicated website, while there are also set to be plenty of opportunities for families and individuals to take part simply by heading along to the many event starting points during the festival itself.

One of the zanier additions to this year's roster of events is the Sink or Swim challenge, which will see an array of participants battling it out to traverse the River Medina in homemade pedal-powered boats.

Visitors keen to keep an eye on the action can do so from the riverbank without any fear of getting wet - unlike many of those taking part.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801615834-ADNFCR
