Winter fun at Carisbrooke Castle

Winter fun at Carisbrooke Castle

There's plenty of winter fun to be had at the stunningly beautiful and incredibly well-preserved site of Carisbrooke Castle.

Standing as a reminder that these impressive buildings were constructed to last forever, the historical venue will be conducting talks, tours and discussions throughout the cold months leading up to spring in an effort to ward off the chill.

With one each taking place in January, February and March, there is ample opportunity to book a ferry to the isle in time for one of these fascinating explorations of the past.

The first illustrated talk to occur on January 21st is the Georgian Tour of the Isle of Wight, which offers an interesting look into what was going on during this fantastic period of history.

A display of watercolour paintings created by Georgian artist John Nixon will be on offer for all to see, which may be of interest to those who value their art as well as their historical studies.

The life and times of Royal Governor Princess Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria, will be put under the microscope on February 26th, with a full tour of her apartments conducted by Carisbrooke Castle Museum curator Sarah Lang.

Finally, the grim times spent by royal prisoner King Charles I before his execution in 1649 will be looked at by former curator of the Carisbrooke Castle Museum Rosemary Cooper.

Attendees will be able to find out more about his life as a captive and hear about some of the daring - if eventually unsuccessful - escape plans hatched to free him.

The events all kick off from 2pm and last for approximately four hours. Pre-booking is essential as places tend to fill up quickly for these fascinating talks and tours, with tickets costing £8 each.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801680175-ADNFCR
