Walking with Dinosaurs to view Isle of Wight fossils

The award-winning team from the BBC's Walking with Dinosaurs are to head to the Isle of Wight's Dinosaur Isle this week.

Taking place today (February 14th), the event will see palaeontologist Dr Steve Brusatte examining the centre's collection of ancient fossils, with the resulting footage to be broadcast in a special for the BBC Earth YouTube channel.

Up to 200 young children are expected to be in attendance during the filming, with Dr Brusatte undertaking his examinations in an inflatable studio where the youngsters will have a chance to take part in the Earth Cube Experience.

Visitors to the island might like to head along to the centre, which houses one of the most extensive fossil collections in the whole of the UK and is a great attraction for all the family.

Peter Pusey, general manager at Dinosaur Isle, told the Isle of Wight County Press Steve Brusatte has co-authored some papers with our own expert Steve Hutt, so he knows our collection."

He recently commented: "We have lots of hands-on things to do - you can help excavate a dinosaur in our sandpit, peer down a video microscope, move our robotic dinosaur, smell the breath of a dinosaur or chat to our palaeontologists and handle some real dinosaur fossils.

"Upstairs in our activity room there is painting to do, games to play and fun to be had dressing up."

He added that the latest feature to be added to the museum is a table-top wooden train set depicting the layout of the island, complete with a dinosaur dig that is currently taking place on the south coast.

Open daily, tickets for Dinosaur Isle cost £5 for adults and £3.70 for kids, while under-threes can get in for free. Meanwhile, a family pass for the centre will cost £16 and includes entry for two adults and two children.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801540793-ADNFCR
