Visit the craft village of Arreton Barns

A trip to Arreton Barns is a great way to spend an afternoon during your time on the Isle of Wight. Here, you'll be able to enjoy great food, fine drinks and even pick up a souvenir or two to mark your stay.

This small village is a thriving artisanal community with all manner of craftspeople on hand, selling a variety of ware including silver, leather and glass goods.

One of the highlights is the Dairyman's Daughter, the local pub, which offers a selection of the finest real ales, accompanied by a menu of great home-cooked meals and plenty of live music. Situated in the very heart of Arreton, this is exactly the kind of traditional pub for which the countryside is famed.

The dishes are made using local produce from the valley wherever possible, and there's an incredibly friendly atmosphere, that extends to inviting guests to bring their own instruments so they can join in the live music being played.

In the barns themselves are a number of shops run by the craftspeople and artisans and this is an amazing place to pick up souvenirs or presents that are a little more unique than what you'd find on the typical high street.

The main shop here is the Corn Exchange, which stocks an assortment of homewares and interior accessories, as well as one-off decorations and designer handbags from the likes of Blondie Mania, Red Dog and the Old Bag Company.

This is a great place to pick up a treat for yourself if you've got a little money left over from your budget at the end of your time on the island.

Other favourites include Ceramic Crafts Ltd, which is run by Arreton veteran artist Sally Moss and her team of ceramics workers; and Diamond Isle Sculpted Glass, where you'll find original and award-winning sculpted glassworks by Paul Critchley and his team.

If you're on the island for November 5th, Arreton Barns is a great place to enjoy Bonfire Night, with one of the island's largest bonfires and a fireworks display to boot.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801656022-ADNFCR
