Unused Osborne House buildings to open?

People paying a visit to Isle of White stately home Osborne House may get to explore more of the attraction in the future if a new bill becomes law.

Currently, there are restrictions on the usage of parts of the house due to the Osborne Estates Act, which has seen the King Edward VII convalescent home closed to the public since 2000, the Isle of Wight County Press reports.

However, a new bill could see this law relaxed, which may open up more of the location to people on Isle of Wight holidays who wish to tour the house, which was the retreat of Queen Victoria.

Isle of Wight MP Andrew Turner recently described Osborne House as "the jewel in the island's crown" in parliament during a debate on the bill.

He later said: "The unused parts of the house are currently costing English Heritage around £60,000 a year to maintain, so as well as breathing new life into this important visitor attraction, that money will be better used."

Although the bill still has to go through several stages, Mr Turner stated he does not anticipate any problems that would prevent it becoming law.
