Take a serene walk around Ventnor gardens

Ventnor Botanic Garden offers one of the Isle of Wight's most peaceful and serene spaces.

Situated within a microclimate at the heart of the famous "Undercliff", the landscape contains plants and flowers you might not expect to see here – thanks to the protection from cold northerly winds that is provided by the chalk downs.

At the same time, warmth from the south and an average rainfall of 28 inches means that the climate is closer to what you'd find at the Mediterranean than across the rest of the island or the UK mainland.

Strolling between the beds of unique and unusual plants that are considered too tender to thrive away from the garden, you'll be confronted with all manner of subtropical species grown right here.

There are also plenty of events depending on the time of year you visit, including botany talks by experts, and a horticulture club.

On top of this, you can eat in the fantastic restaurant edulis, which uses fresh produce grown in Ventnor Botanic Garden and learn all about climate change and how the plants here are doing their part to fight it.

In the more temperate months, there are even opportunities to go night swimming among beautiful water lilies – while October sees the return of the highly popular Hops Festival between October 25th and 28th.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801653707-ADNFCR
