Ryde Arts Festival kicks off tomorrow

The annual Ryde Arts Festival will be kicking off tomorrow (June 28th) and promises to offer a wide array of attractions for culture vulture descending on the Isle of Wight.

Running until July 7th at venues across Ryde, the annual showpiece will highlight the many working artists on the island and presents a chance for these innovative thinkers to show off their latest designs.

The Depozitory will be showcasing The Never Ending Story, an exhibition of the works of Janette Gregson looking into aspects of visual journaling, matchbox mementos and family history.

In addition, the St Thomas' Heritage Centre will be holding its Chalk Talks - a personal and intimate series of seminars with six acclaimed artists. Lisa Traxler, Carley Mann, Violetta Liszka, Joanne Hummel-Newell, Howard Hardiaman and Carol Jaye.

Ms Jaye will be speaking about her creative process. She explained: "If I do too much planning the work will be finished before I get to the clay. I need to lose myself in the making and let that 'something else' take over. That's when things really begin to work."

The festival promises to be a great way for fans of culture to interact with local artists and is a show not to be missed for island visitors.

Other attractions over the week include the Reading Spaces series at Ryde Library, hosted by Tim Roberts, Jonathan Ward and Dan Roberts.

Meanwhile, music lovers heading to the Isle of Wight later this year are in for a real treat, as the acclaimed Proms series is heading to the island for the first time in its history.

The Last Night of the Proms is to be held at the Shanklin Theatre on September 22nd and will see the world renowned British Symphony Orchestra showcasing a range of classical tunes.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801605365-ADNFCR
