Race for Life returns in 2013

Individuals keen to support cancer research in the UK might like to head along to this year's Race for Life that is returning to the Isle of Wight in May.

Set to be held at Medina Playing Fields on the 19th, the event is organised to raise money for Cancer Research UK and is open to women who wish to be sponsored to take part in the 5km challenge.

All funds raised go towards essential research into new treatments and analytical processes for a range of cancers, as well as providing care for families and those affected by the condition.

Now in its 13th year, Race for Life has seen more than six million people involved in fundraising, delivering more than £457 million and helping countless individuals across the UK.

Starting at 11:00 GMT, entry costs just £14.99 per person and the route of the race will take entrants on a 5km trek through Medina Playing Fields and the surrounding Seaclose Park area.

Entrants do not simply have to run either, as they can walk the route, dance around it or travel in any other way which they deem fit.

It promises to be an emotional and fun day out for all the family, with individuals who are simply keen to head along and offer their support to the runners more than welcome to do so.

Meanwhile, other events that could prove attractive to Isle of Wight visitors over the coming months include the Isle of Wight Grand National & Ashey Scurry that is to be held at West Ashey Farm in Ryde on Saturday March 24th.

Five events are being put on this year to entertain the crowds, including the Puffing Billy Stakes, Puffed Out Billy Stakes, the senior Ashey Scurry, junior Ashey Scurry and the 2013 Creasey, Biles and King Isle of Wight Grand National.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801543174-ADNFCR
