Plenty to enjoy at Newport Jazz Weekend

Jazz fan? Heading to the Isle of Wight for a holiday this summer? Then you're in luck - there’s a full-blown, jam-packed jazz festival taking place on the island at the end of next month.

Celebrating its second year, Newport Jazz Weekend features some of the most exciting jazz musicians in the UK and the US, as well as up-and-coming acts and new, diverse talents.

Organisers say the inaugural event was so successful and proved so popular with jazz musicians, it’d be silly not to do it all again for another year.

Taking place at various locations in the island's popular town of Newport from July 19th to July 21st, the weekend, organised by local musicians and jazz fans, proves to be a must-see for music lovers everywhere.

If you're heading to the Isle of Wight for a summer break, why not head to Newport for some jazz vibes - head to a bar and soak up some music while drinking in some spectacular surroundings.

The weekend opens at the Quay Arts Center with a 'best of British' event featuring some of the most-loved home-grown jazz legends including Keigh Ingham, Digby Fairweather and Roy Williams.

Other highlights include Sax Appeal at the Riverside Centre, a UK-based jazz band, led by Derek Nash. Originally formed in Manchester in 1980, it now plays mostly in London, with regular trips to jazz festivals and gigs outside that area.

Alan Barnes, one of the UK’s leading jazz musicians and personalities, is the weekend's resident artist.

"There is a plethora of superb musicians throughout the weekend. What a feast for guitar fans alone - Martin Taylor, Jim Mullen and Nigel Price, all brilliant on the instrument, yet all entirely individual!" he said.

"The 'Best of British Jazz Legends' has an intriguing line up and promises to be a swinging start to the proceedings. Keith Ingham remains one of our finest exports to the US and other veteran soloists, Digby Fairweather, Roy Williams and Dave Shepherd are all playing as well as ever."

Music fans on the Isle of Wight can also check out Rhythmtree, a world music festival taking place over the same weekend.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801606063-ADNFCR
