Martin Speake Trio to play live on the Isle of Wight

Jazz lovers will not want to miss an upcoming concert from the Martin Speake Trio at the Quay Arts Centre on the Isle of Wight.

The self-described "unusual trio" will be taking to the stage and treating audience members to an evening of seductive, captivating and at times improvised jazz.

Expect to hear "meditative ballads" and "trance-like grooves" as well as minimalist pieces, Arabic influenced tunes, heavy metal-inspired songs and unaccompanied solos from each of the three talented musicians.

Saxophonist and composer Martin Speake was born in London and has been playing his instrument since the tender age of 16.

In the past, he has toured the world with Itchy Fingers, received a Peter Whittingham Award, set up his own record label and established himself as a first-class musician.

Meanwhile, Ohio-born Jeff Williams, who plays the drums in the trio, has also had a long and fruitful career as part of various other acts, including Dave Liebman's group Lookout Farm. He has further recorded with artists like John Abercrombie, Dizzy Gillespie, Tom Harrell and Randy Brecker.

Not to mention Mike Outram, the Martin Speake Trio's brilliant guitarist, who has played in the Royal Albert Hall with the Aurora Orchestra, teaches at Trinity College of Music and is also a member of various other bands, which include The Tony Woods Project, The London Horns and Asaf Sirkis' Messiaen-meets-Prog group.

According to Thomas Conrad from the Jazz Times, "Martin Speake is one of the most interesting and rewarding alto saxophonists now playing jazz on any continent," making his forthcoming show at the Quay Arts Centre a must-see.

The gig is being held on November 15th, with the night kicking off at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £11 in advance or £13 on the door, and you should turn up nice and early to avoid missing the start of the concert.

Make sure you enjoy a cool beverage and nibbles from the venue bar, which will be open for the duration of the show.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801648618-ADNFCR
