Isle of Wight radio station saved by Keith Richards

Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones has made a donation to keep an Isle of Wight radio station on the air.

Angel Radio director Bev Webster stated that she thought it was a joke when a cheque arrived from the rock star.

He forked out £3,000 in order to prevent the Isle of Wight radio station from having to close down.

Ms Webster said: "I don’t know if Keith listens to us on the internet, or maybe he tuned in when the Rolling Stones played the Isle of Wight Festival a few years ago."

She added the staff at the radio station could not believe it when the cheque from Richards arrived in the post.

The money was used to buy a replacement transmitter for one that was damaged when it was hit by lightning earlier in the year.

Richards is famous for his rock and roll behaviour throughout a long career in music, as well as songs such as Start Me Up, Get Off Of My Cloud, Paint it Black and Honky Tonk Women.
