Isle of Wight Festival Fringe

The Isle of Wight Festival is known the world over for attracting major names in the music business, yet the Blacksheep Bar will be serving up some raw talent as part of its Isle of Wight Festival Fringe, which is likely to be just as entertaining.

While the band names are hardly as internationally recognisable as those playing at its sister event, it is still worth looking in on the Ryde-based celebration, which is taking place from March 13th until the 24th.

The vast majority of the talent on offer is acoustic based in sound, with a week's worth of evenings crammed with performers both local and from abroad.

Highlights include the opening set of the festival by Marlee King, the daughter of Mark King who performed lead vocals and guitar for Level 42, who swept to fame during the 80s and the 90s.

She is followed by precocious young talent Charley Macaulay from Southampton, who is signed to Acid Jazz Records. Her soulful retro sound has already enjoyed plenty of acclaim from her string of performances last year which saw her playing at Glastonbury, Bestival, Blissfields and many more.

Enthusiasts of Jools Holland may recognise Joe Gladdis, who has been selected to support the legendary performer later this year, and will also be taking part in the main Isle of Wight festival as well as Glastonbury in 2014.

And ambient electro trio The White Bicycles from Falmouth in Cornwall are also worth a mention following their completion of a south and south west of England tour that saw them visit Devon, Brighton, Oxford and London.

"Gorgeous, subtle and well-written; they are three minutes away from a big break," was how their song Elegy was described by DJ Tom Robinson when he played it on BBC 6 recently.

So come along to the festival and witness the best in up and coming talent. You won't be disappointed.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801687396-ADNFCR
