IOW Walking Festival to make triumphant return

There's nowhere better in the world for a good ramble than the Isle of Wight, which has a reputation among the walking community as being a stunning location for a nice wander. Plenty of lovely scenery, gorgeous cliff faces and walks to challenge all levels. Lovely.

It's only appropriate, then, that the island has its very own festival celebrating this great sport. And as a matter of fact, it does. Step forward, the Isle of Wight Walking Festival, which takes place twice a year - in the spring and the autumn.

This year's incarnation - taking place from May 3rd until the 18th - is fast approaching, with plenty on offer to entertain everyone from children and botanists to dog walkers and archaeologists.

An epic celebration of our ability to cover any distance on our own two feet, perhaps the most famous event of the festival is the 72-mile walk around the edge of the island within 24 hours - a feat that you can certainly be proud of if you get to the end.

Families will be catered for with special walks aimed at the kids, while foodies will be treated to a walking tour that includes a meal at all the best restaurants along the way.

Early birds will no doubt love the Dawn Chorus wanders, while those up for something a bit more unusual can take an alpaca on their journey.

Singletons are also catered for with a special Speed Dating walk - now responsible for four weddings and a baby so there must be something in it!

Those anxious to take part are encouraged to check the website for the appropriate list of dates. You can use the search function to customise your ideal ramble, choosing the distance, pace and difficulty to search for your perfect wander.

If nothing else, it's a great excuse to get out in the fresh air and meet some new people.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801701096-ADNFCR
