Head to Walk the Wight 2013

Walk the Wight is returning in 2013, with this year's festival set to take place next month.

Held on May 12th and featuring an array of exciting, picturesque and enthralling walks around the Isle of Wight, the event will be raising funds for local charity the East Mountbatten Hospice.

Visitors will be given the chance to take part in four scheduled walks this year, with the original 26-mile hike across the Isle of Wight still expected to be the most popular.

It is split into two parts for those who do not think they can make the full journey, with the first leg a 12.5-mile hike from Bembridge to Carisbrooke, followed by a second 14-mile jaunt to the finish at Alum Bay.

Other scheduled events include the eight-mile Flat Walk from Sandown Bay Academy to Thompson's Trees in Shide, while the Schools Walk is also available for younger entrants - covering much of the same route as the main walk, but broken down into more manageable chunks - and the Dogs Walk for those who can't bear to be separated from their beloved pooch.

Up to 12,000 visitors are expected at this year's walking festival, with more than 2,000 local pupils from 50 schools taking part last year and the same figure expected in 2013.

Individuals who cannot make it along to Walk the Wight this year can still offer their support to East Mountbatten Hospice, as the charity has set up a handy text donation service.

Meanwhile, visitors planning a getaway to the island later in May might like to head along to the upcoming 17th annual Old Gaffers Festival, which is being held in Yarmouth and promises to offer enjoyment for fans of all things nautical.

Running from May 31st to June 3rd, the show will see boating races in The Solent, as well as live music from such artists as The Regular Joes, The Tootsie Rollers and Mr B - the Gentleman Rhymer.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801575896-ADNFCR
