Get in the spirit at the Brighstone Christmas Tree Festival

Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without wonderfully decorated pine trees and at Brighstone on the Isle of Wight, they've got them in their hundreds!

The village's Christmas tree event has been an IOW festival for 17 years now and is the perfect way to get you in the mood for the holiday season.

Fill your senses with the sight and smell of more than 160 themed Christmas trees, which will be exhibited in six different locations - St Mary's Church; the Methodist Church; Wilberforce Hall; the Reading Rooms; the Three Bishops pubs and St Peter and St Paul's church in neighbouring Mottistone - between December 5th and 8th.

Although entry is free, any donations you can afford to make will go to local and national charities.

While the tree displays open on the 5th, the festival actually gets underway on the 4th, with the Earl Mountbatten Hospice tree lighting ceremony and carols in Brighstone Church.

And alongside the tree viewings, there will be musical entertainment, handbell ringing, carol services, gift and craft fairs, a mini market, a nativity pageant, a special 'Stars of Wonder' concert to suit all tastes and a mini Christmas Tree design competition for the children in Brighstone Library - it's the perfect festival for all the family.

As you browse the displays, you'll be able to tuck into refreshments of mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, homemade soups, cakes, biscuits, tea, coffee and soft drinks.

Even after the festival has come to a close, St Mary's Church will be hosting the Sandown and Shanklin Military Band concert on December 14th at 7.30pm, with the musicians set to perform against the backdrop of spectacular illuminated trees from the event.

And, at two of the locations - St Mary's Church and the Methodist Church - the trees will be left on show until Boxing Day.

It's going to be worth taking a short ferry break on the island just for this great festival.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801659692-ADNFCR
