Free art on Isle of Wight this weekend

Tourists heading on Isle of Wight holidays this weekend who are interested in art could take the chance to see some pieces for free during their break on the island.

As part of the Isle of Arts event that is taking place this weekend, many local artists are going to be demonstrating their work free of charge.

According to a report by the Isle of Wight County Press, a trail is going to be put on starting at Ventnor Youth Centre, with Style of Wight organising the event.

Work by students of six Isle of Wight schools will be put on in an exhibition at the centre, with the highlights expected to include a structural sculpture made from natural and recycled materials.

The event has been made possible through an Isle of Arts outreach programme, sponsored by Liz Earle, Pabulum and npower, while locations such as Phileas Fogg restaurant, the Tramezzini delicatessen, Bizzy Lizzy's, the Crab and Lobster Tap, the Hillside Bistro and Inspirations are among those to be getting involved in the project.

A vast range of Isle of Wight-based artists are confirmed as taking part in the Isle of Arts event, including Tony Trowbridge, Jamie and Judy Vans and Celia Wilkinson, as well as  Kate Christie, Freye Conway and Edna Coatsworth.

Others on the list include John Hunter, Chris Jenkins, Marion Large, Fiona Austin, Phil Capon and Martin Swan, meaning there is going to be something for everyone.

A red sticker is going to be placed in the window of participating venues on the Isle of Wight this weekend, according to the organisers of the event.

Meanwhile, Joe Iles told the Guardian those on Isle of Wight holidays ought to take a trip to That Shop in Cowes, which was described as a treasure trove where visitors could pick up a bargain classic LP or Marvel comic.
