Enjoy great cinema on the Isle of Wight this November

By day, the Isle of Wight is a beautiful place to walk around and explore, with its coastal views a sight to behold at any time of year.

But what is there for visitors to do once night falls, when the magnificent architecture and scenic landscapes are covered in a blanket of darkness?

Plenty, as it happens - particularly if you've a movie buff. This November, there are lots of brilliant films being shown at venues all around the island, some old, some new.

After a long day on your feet, there's nothing better than relaxing in a comfortable seat and enjoying a great film with your loved ones. So why not do a spot of cinema-hopping during your trip?

Here is our rundown of the three best movies screening in the coming weeks:

A Hijacking (15)

This 2012 Danish movie, presented by the Ventnor Film Society, is truly gripping, and tells the tale of a cargo ship heading for harbour that is seized by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean.

We dart back and forth between two very different worlds - that of the terrorised crew on board the boat and that belonging to the chief executive officer of the shipping company, who is forced to negotiate with the hijackers.

You can see the film at the Ventnor Arts Club on November 12th, and the screening begins at 7.30pm sharp, so turn up nice and early to avoid disappointment. All tickets are priced at £5 and can be purchased on the door.

To Kill A Mockingbird (12)

This film is a classic, and dates all the way back to 1962, when it was adapted from the 1960 Harper Lee novel of the same name.

Follow the story of Atticus Finch, a lawyer living in the Deep South during the Great Depression, who becomes a moral hero when he defends a black man facing an unfair rape charge. The book is among the greats in terms of American literature, and a chance to see the movie is not to be turned down.

It is showing at Trinity Theatre in Cowes on November 14th, with doors set to open at 6.45pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets cost £4.50pm for adults and £3.50 for under-16s.

Me and You (15)

Another gem brought to you by the Ventnor Film Society, Me and You - an Italian drama released in 2012 - is about the lonely life of a teenager called Lorenzo, who hides away from his family and the rest of the world in an abandoned cellar with his music, books and ant farm.

However, Lorenzo is forced to grow up following an unwanted guest in the form of his drug addict older sister, and the two of them begin a turbulent journey together. What makes this movie so special is director Bernardo Bertolucci's unique cinematography and the intricacy of his touching storyline.

The film will begin at 7.30pm on November 26th, with tickets costing £5 on the door. Be warned - latecomers will not be allowed in.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801654266-ADNFCR
