Enjoy Father's Day on the Isle of Wight

People planning a treat for their father this weekend have been urged to consider the Isle of Wight's many attractions.

With Father's Day taking place on Sunday (June 16th), Visit Isle of Wight offered some dad-friendly suggestions for those hoping to enjoy a special family day out on the island.

The official tourism body recommended Goodleaf Tree Climbing in East Cowes, which is offering special vouchers for a two-hour session this weekend. Visitors will have the opportunity to climb 50 feet into the canopy of an ancient oak tree.

Established in 2005, the Goodleaf centre has previously been recommended by the Guardian and offers recreational tree climbing experiences for people aged between eight and 80.

Another idea for a Father's Day outing put forward by Visit Isle of Wight was a trip to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, which features a number of beautifully restored locomotives and carriages.

Some of the carriages date back to the 1860s and the five-mile route taken by the train, from Smallbrook Junction to Wootton, offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the island's unspoilt countryside.

This Sunday, all dads travelling on the railway will go free if accompanied by at least one fee-paying child.

Alternatively, the UK Sailing Academy in West Cowes offers a number of different water sports sessions and lessons for aspiring yachtsmen.

Music-loving dads should also find plenty to enjoy on the island this weekend, as the 2013 Isle of Wight Festival gets underway at Seaclose Park near Newport. The final day of the musical extravaganza, which of course coincides with Father's Day, will see performances from the likes of Bon Jovi, Blondie, The Script, Paloma Faith, Newton Faulkner and The Boomtown Rats.

One-day tickets for the event are still available online, priced at £75 plus booking fee.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801598602-ADNFCR
