Cowes Week 2013 will be fun for all the family

Families heading to the Isle of Wight in August should be sure to check out one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the island's annual calendar - the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week 2013.

The eight-day festival is a celebration of all things nautical and is the oldest and largest sailing regatta in the world.

More than 8,500 competitors will take part in races in the Isle of Wight's waters, while in excess of 100,000 spectators will line the shores and head along to an array of special events that are put on to commemorate the festival each year.

First held in 1826, Cowes Week has become as much a part of island life as a visit to the famous Needles lighthouse, with over 1,000 boats across more than 40 classes to be taking part and on display for the viewing public.

Individuals planning an Isle of Wight getaway between August 3rd and 10th should therefore pencil Cowes Week 2013 into their diary, as it promises to be one of the biggest parties of the year and a treat for anyone with a passion for sailing.

The world famous Cowes Week fireworks display will also be taking place on the last Friday, with guests treated to a explosive end to what will be a fun-packed and exciting few days.

Elsewhere on the island in August, the International Scooter Rally will be taking place in Ryde, with scooter enthusiast from across the UK and beyond descending on this little island town to show off some of the best custom Vespas and Lambrettas in the world.

Prizes will be handed out to those who have created the most jaw-dropping vehicles, while guests will also be able to enjoy a range of live entertainment, with the whole show organised by the VFM Scooter Collective.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801576615-ADNFCR
