Artists pairing up for Newport exhibition

Quay Arts in Newport is preparing to open an exhibition based on efforts between pairs of artists.

The DUET: Open Exhibition, which opens on Saturday (December 7th) and runs until February 15th next year, is filled with bodies of work exploring the theme of collaboration.

To be considered for entry into the exhibition an artist had to make a joint submission with another artist or non-artist. Those selected include Caroline Underwood and James Lord, Elizabeth Simson and Henrietta Simson, and Holly Cade and Liz Sterry.

Between them, these pairs of creative minds have used print, photography, paint, mixed media, sculpture and paper, as well as audio and film, to express their ideas.

Reflecting the modern world, while some of the pairs worked together in a studio in a more traditional approach, others communicated with each other via the internet.

The opening night of the show will see a prize-giving ceremony taking place at 5pm, with the winning duo awarded an exhibition in Quay Arts' Rope Store Gallery for autumn/winter 2014 with support from Quay Arts' Marketing, Curatorial and Installation team.

The selectors for this year's exhibition are co-founder of 'a space arts' Daniel Crow, Quay Arts Open 2010 Winner Katayoun Dowlatshahi and Georgia Newman, Quay Arts' visual arts project manager.

Quay Arts is one of the island's premier cultural centres and hosts a wide range of events throughout the year, including theatre, exhibitions, art classes, stimulating activities for children, cinema screenings and workshops.

There is also a shop and cafe on site, making Quay Arts the ideal place to go for a day out on the Isle of Wight.

Other events on this December include 'Murder Most Fowl! - Christmas dinner theatre with a fatal twist' and jazz music from Ed Jones and the Jim Thorn Trio.

You'll find Quay Arts on Sea Street in the centre of Newport alongside the River Medina. ADNFCR-3083-ID-801669490-ADNFCR
