Alan Titchmarsh supports Ventnor Botanic Gardens

One of the Isle of Wight's top tourist attractions has received the backing of a television personality.

Gardening expert and daytime TV host Alan Titchmarsh has come out in support of Ventnor Botanic Gardens, which is currently the subject of intense speculation regarding its future.

Titchmarsh stated that venues such as the gardens are very important to the economic prosperity of the Isle of Wight.

"Money saved on gardens and open spaces is more often than not needed further down the line when folk suffer as a result of the absence of such facilities," he was quoted as saying by VentnorBlog.

The former Ground Force presenter added that green spaces such as Ventnor Botanic Gardens can have a profoundly positive impact on those who visit them.

He said it would be "irresponsible" if the benefits provided by the Isle of Wight tourist attraction were ignored.

The venue is currently hosting the Monochrome Miscellany photographic exhibition, which will be open until November 25th 2010 and is free to view.
