10th anniversary for Wightlink Wight Challenge this year

This year is set to witness the 10th anniversary of the annual Wightlink Wight Challenge, with the event sure to test the mettle of participants in 2013.

Featuring a gruelling 19-mile cycle, two-mile canoe race and eight-mile run, the challenge is a significant test of endurance for entrants, but it does afford those taking part the opportunity to race through some of the most pristine and picturesque countryside in the UK.

Racing across the Isle of Wight, teams of three will battle it out to be victorious in a number of events throughout the year, with the next scheduled to take place on May 25th at 09:00 GMT.

However, individuals who wish to enter but who cannot make it in May might like to book their place early in the later event, which will be held on September 21st, kicking off at 09:30.

Using identical equipment, the racers are all taking part to raise much-needed funds for a number of important organisations, with the recipients of fundraising efforts in 2013 being Wessex Heartbeat, Sail 4 Cancer and the Rainbow Centre for Neurological Enablement.

Visitors do not simply have to take part in order to show their support though, as anyone who wishes to head along simply to cheer on the competitors or to support the charities is more than welcome to do so.

Meanwhile, anyone visiting the Isle of Wight in the coming days who is a fan of live music and also wishes to help to support a good cause should head along to the Blacksheep Bar in Ryde on Saturday (March 16th).

The Isle of Wight County Press reports a night of reggae entertainment has been scheduled, with the night to help to raise funds for The Starlight Foundation - a charity which works to help fulfil the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801556691-ADNFCR
