Vote for the Isle of Wight's best chip shop
Tue 16 Feb 2010
People taking Isle of Wight holidays might be tempted to stop off at a chippy over the next few days.
This week is National Chip Week and VentnorBlog is calling on chip aficionados to name their favourite fish and chip shop on the island.
Consumers can leave their nomination on the VentnorBlog website and the one which racks up the most votes will win the Island's Best Chippy award.
The site said that since it is National Chip Week, people can eat chips every day to mark the occasion.
It went on to cite a new study which suggested that eating chips can be good for your mental health.
Research commissioned by the Potato Council has showed that chips make people feel good because the taste and smell reminds them of happy times.
Dr Mike Green from Aston University commented: "The psychological data showed that participants who were feeling down felt better after eating chips.
"In fact, calmness was restored after 20 minutes."
